What to Expect

What to Expect

Attending a new church can be a stressful situation, especially if you haven’t been to church for a while. Here are some things to know to help you prepare for your visit to Covenant.

General Information

We have Sunday worship at 10:00 a.m. We seek to have a service that glorifies God and maintains a balance of both joy and reverence. We use music that includes traditional hymns as well as contemporary Christian songs. Our worship also includes historical Christian practices such as responsive readings and the use of ancient creeds.

Our pastors’ messages are based on the Bible. Each message seeks to provide understanding of a portion of God’s Word along with appropriate application of the text to our day and situation. You can sample some of our recent sermons.

Clothing

You will find people dressed in a wide variety of ways. Some will be in suits and dresses while others may be in jeans and shirts. Most men and women will be dressed in business casual attire. You will fit in and be welcomed no matter how you dress.

Children

Covenant provides a nursery (cry room) for children 3 years old and younger during the worship service. The nursery is just behind the sanctuary and can be seen through a large one-way glass by parents.

Children older than nursery aged are encouraged to sit with their parents during the service. We believe that it is a great blessing for families to worship together and that our children benefit from worship at a young age.

Parking

When you arrive at the church you will drive into our parking lot. The only reserved spots are for new visitors. Those spots are immediately on your right as you enter the parking lot. If you’re new, feel free to use those when you visit.

Answers to Common Concerns

We will do nothing to embarrass you. You will not be forced to introduce yourself at all during the service. We will not publicly point you out in any way. Some who sit close to you in the service will greet you, but that will be private and casual.

All parents at Covenant have gone through the process of training children to sit through a worship service (and it’s easier than it sounds). We understand kids and won’t be upset at your children while they adjust. We provide the back three rows of pews for parents with young children. If they need a break, you can feel free to take them out.

Yes! For those who are hearing impaired, we have special hearing devices that you can wear that will allow you to control the volume. If you think this would be beneficial to you, pick one up at the Sound Desk at the rear of the sanctuary.

At Covenant you will not be asked any questions about the Bible in either the worship service or Sunday School. There are times in Sunday School for people to take part in discussion about the Bible, but that is always voluntary. We hope you will come and learn about the Bible with us – without fear.

As a visitor you are our guest. We would never pressure a guest to give to the offering or volunteer for something at the church. This is a time for you to get to know us. If you decide that Covenant is the church for you we can talk later about how you can become involved at Covenant. But that will be when you are ready.
